ONA34 Member Communication: October 2026
Dear ONA34 Members,
As we move into October, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued involvement in our local union and to share a few important updates.
Congratulations to Our Newly Elected ONA 34 Representatives
Our local election has concluded, and I want to extend my sincere congratulations to everyone who was elected to represent their colleagues. These individuals have stepped forward because they believe in the importance of having a strong, active local union, and I know they will work hard to support ONA 34 members.
I also want to thank everyone who put their name forward for election. Running for a union position takes time, commitment and courage, and your willingness to serve your colleagues is appreciated.
Most importantly, thank all our members who participated in the election. Your participation is what makes our local union democratic and strong. By voting, attending meetings, asking questions, putting your name forward and speaking up about issues in your workplace, you are helping to shape the future of ONA 34.
Our local union belongs to all of us. Your participation is how we build it.
Provincial Hospital Bargaining — Your Voice Matters
ONA’s provincial hospital bargaining process is also moving forward, and members have an important opportunity to help shape the issues that will be brought forward at the bargaining table.
The Hospital Provincial Demand Setting Meeting is an opportunity for members to share their experiences, identify priorities and have their voices heard as we prepare for provincial bargaining.
I strongly encourage you to register and participate. The strength of our provincial bargaining demands comes from members sharing what is happening on the front lines.
ONA Region 4, ONA34, Meeting is November 4, 2026, 1:00 – 3:00 PM

Protecting ONA RN Work
Across Ontario, we are seeing RN layoffs and continued pressure on nursing positions. At the same time, we must remain vigilant about protecting the work that belongs within our bargaining unit.
If you are seeing bargaining unit work being eliminated, reassigned, contracted out, performed by individuals outside the bargaining unit, or if staffing decisions are creating concerns about patient safety and your ability to meet professional standards, please bring those concerns forward to ONA at local034@ona.org
Workload complaints are an important tool for documenting concerns and ensuring that issues are formally raised. If you believe a workload concern exists, don’t hesitate to reach out for support and assistance with the process.
If you need assistance with your workload concern, please contact your VP Workload:

- Mississauga Site: Claudia Rodas - local034wkld-M@ona.org
- Queensway Site: Danielle Javier - local034hs-Q@ona.org
- McCall Site: Elizabeth de Sousa Mendonca - local034hsmc@ona.org
- RCC/Satellite Sites: Ann Scott – local034@ona.org
We cannot protect bargaining unit work if we don’t know what is happening in our workplaces.
Know Your Collective Agreement — And Enforce It
I also want to remind everyone that you should bring forward any concerns you have about your collective agreement.
Whether it is scheduling, overtime, vacation, seniority, premiums, vacancies, staffing, assignments, leaves or another issue, please don’t assume that something is simply the way it is. If you have a question or believe your collective agreement may not be being followed, reach out to your ONA representatives.
A collective agreement provides us with rights and protections, but those rights are only as strong as our willingness to enforce them.
As your Local Coordinator, I would much rather hear about a concern early so that we can assess it together than have a member feel they had to deal with an issue on their own.
We Are Your Union
ONA34 is a large and diverse bargaining unit, but we are one local union. Our strength comes from standing together, supporting one another and making sure that members have a voice in their workplace.
Thank you for continuing to participate, speak up and support one another. Thank you to everyone who has stepped forward to serve our local, and congratulations again to our newly elected representatives.
Your voice matters. Your participation matters. And Your Union is here to support you.
In solidarity,
Ann Scott
ONA34 Bargaining Unit President
