As a new ONA member you will have received an email from our Provincial President. This email contains important information, including your member ID #. If you haven’t received your email, please contact your Bargaining Unit President.

Rose Briscoe Bursaries

ONA Local 34 is pleased to offer its members three (3) bursary opportunities.

Rose Briscoe, an Operating Room RN, was an original founding member of the Queensway General Hospital, ONA Local 34, in 1973. Rose was the first local president, was well-respected and a leader in labour relations. She became ONA Provincial President in 1985. Rose was also a member of the Board of Directors for several hospitals and colleges. Rose died in August, 2021.

Local 34 honours her nursing labour relations legacy with three (3) $500.00 bursaries for members who wish to pursue education in labour relations.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be ONA Local 34 members with entitlements. Please attach to the application any information demonstrating that the following criteria have been met:

    • Provide evidence (e.g. course outline) that the education relates to labour relations
    • Education must be other than that sponsored or delivered by ONA or organizations to which ONA is affiliated
    • Explain how the education will advance the goals of the union
    • Agree to provide a written report to the Local President at gro.a1732012510no@4317320125100laco1732012510l1732012510 within 30 days of completion of the course
    • Explain how the information obtained will be shared with members at the Local/Bargaining Unit level
    • Application must be received at gro.a1732012510no@4317320125100laco1732012510l1732012510 by April 1 each calendar year
    • If the maximum number of bursaries has not been awarded then applications received after April 1 will be considered.
    • Successful applicants will be notified by email within one month of the decision
