Celebrating a Successful Nurses Week
As we move into June and begin to enjoy some much-awaited warmer weather, we want to take a moment to reflect on the success of this year’s Nurses Week celebrations.
Thank you to all our members for your enthusiastic participation throughout the week. It was wonderful to connect with so many of you and to see the pride, professionalism, and camaraderie that make our nursing community so strong.
We also want to extend our sincere gratitude for everything you do each and every day. Your professionalism, compassion, and unwavering dedication to nursing and patient care continue to make an incredible difference to patients, families, and colleagues alike.
Nurses Week Gift Survey
Members have received a survey regarding this year’s Nurses Week gifts. Your feedback is important to us, and we encourage everyone to take a few moments to complete the survey so we can continue improving future member appreciation initiatives.
ONA34 Satisfaction Survey
A friendly reminder to complete the ONA34 Member satisfaction survey. Your feedback is important to us, and we encourage everyone to take a few moments to complete the survey so we can continue improving our support, communication and advocacy for ONA34 members.
Both the Nurses Week Gift Survey and the ONA34 Members Satisfaction Survey will close Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 4 pm.
Education Advocacy Update
We would also like to thank all members who signed the petition in support of members pursuing education related to nursing. Your advocacy and solidarity on this important issue are greatly appreciated.
We are pleased to share that the hospital has recently re-engaged ONA in discussions on this matter, and we are hopeful that we will be able to report positive news in-the-near future.
Provincial Advocacy
ONA also continues to advocate for members at the provincial level. On May 25th, ONA was in court challenging the HLDAA (Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act) process and advocating for changes that would better allow members to exercise their constitutional right to strike. Protecting members’ collective bargaining unit rights remains an important priority for ONA. The provincial team is busy preparing for Provincial Hospital Negotiations. The provincial Have-Your-Say Survey is currently open until June 25th, and we encourage all members to complete this survey to have your voice heard and establish members’ top provincial bargaining priorities. The survey can be found here: For Hospital Members – Have YOUR Say! • Ontario Nurses' Association.
Congratulations to Cheryl De Lugt and Marianne Fletcher who have been elected as ONA Region 4 representatives on the Provincial Negotiating Team.
Rally for Care, Not Cuts
We also want to remind members about the upcoming rally in support of protecting healthcare services and advocating for safe patient care. On Thursday, June 25, during the June Provincial Coordinators Meeting (PCM), ONA members will be rallying for Care NOT Cuts outside St. Joseph’s Healthcare in downtown Hamilton. Please join us in this fight! The rally is from 9 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. The site is at 50 Charlton Ave East, Hamilton. RSVP here.
ONA34 Advocacy and Member Education
Locally, ONA remains very busy supporting members through grievances, health and safety concerns, long-term disability appeals, and ongoing workload issues. Please do not hesitate to reach out to ONA at local034@ona.org with any labour relations questions or workplace concerns. We are here to support and advocate for you.
We also continue to hold workload education sessions for members.
Upcoming Sessions
We encourage all members who have not already attended to participate in one of these sessions. Workload forms are an important professional responsibility tool and play a critical role in documenting situations where nurses are unable to meet their College of Nurses of Ontario standards due to workload concerns. Completing workload forms is also an important way to help protect RN bargaining unit work and advocate for safe patient care.
Thank You
As summer approaches, we recognize that many members will soon be taking well-deserved vacations. We encourage everyone to take time to rest, recharge, and recuperate. Nursing is demanding work, and taking care of yourselves is just as important as taking care of others. Thank you again for your continued commitment, advocacy, and support of one another. We wish everyone a safe, enjoyable, and restful start to the summer season🌞
In solidarity,
Ann Scott,
Bargaining Unit President
